Holidays in Sicily with children
Family-friendly holiday ideas
The Christmas holidays will soon arrive, an opportunity to spend a few days with the family after the summer break. As young people we loved trekking in the mountains, visiting new cities planning to walk for a long time… now instead we have children still young and we have to look for a viable alternative to not give up our long-awaited holidays. Don’t panic! There are many opportunities to organize our holidays in Sicily with children: comfort and lots of fun together!

Child friendly cities in Sicily
The Sicilian cities are beautiful to visit both in summer and winter. Let’s start with our beautiful Catania. One day would not be enough to visit it and admire how beautiful it has to show. First of all it would be nice to show children the beautiful Piazza Duomo with its elephant “U Liotru“: children will be fascinated by the beautiful stories related to this symbol. Just as they would be amazed by the Senate carriages at the entrance to the Palazzo degli Elefanti, or visiting Catania’s colorful Fish Market, ‘A piscaria: a mix of colors, smells and voices that can show the cheerful soul of the city without any other explanation.
If you decide instead to visit the western part of the island for your holidays in Sicily with children, you can not miss Palermo. Starting from the Cathedral, majestic as well as splendid, to continue with the Teatro Massimo, Palazzo dei Normanni and Piazza Pretoria with its fountain.

Eating in Sicily with children
Between a visit and the other, during your holidays in Sicily with children, can not miss the break dedicated to refreshment, and in Sicily there are suitable places! Whether you are in Catania or Palermo, in both cities you will find the famous “kiosks“: a sort of “bar” that serves drinks. Take advantage to taste a lemon and salt seltz to fight the heat or a digestive after lunch!
For a quick lunch break instead we suggest you to stop in one of the many bars, take a seat at a table and order an arancino. Or arancina?! Despite the diatribe over the name, in both cities you will eat a unique delicacy! Don’t forget the cannoli, crespelle and cassata siciliana!
