The amazing atmosphere of the sun setting on Mount Etna
The amazing atmosphere of the sun setting on Mount Etna
Experience the incredible atmosphere of Mount Etna at sunset in this half-day tour departing from Taormina; after the trekking explore a volcanic cave and enjoy a tasty snack with local products.
We will pick you up outside/nearby your accommodation in Taormina or in its close vicinity (depending on the accommodation’s location, we will organize a convenient meeting point) between 2.30 and 3.00 PM. Each of our minivans can accommodate up to 8 participants.
It takes about one hour to arrive on Etna North to our camp base: there, you will stop briefly to get to know better the guide and the day’s itinerary; you will also take the needed equipment for the hike (we can provide trekking boots and jackets upon request). Our expert naturalistic guide will then take the lead and walk you through ancient woods and extinct craters, as well as introduce you to the spectacular volcanic phenomena occurred over time. The walk will be your chance to learn about the typical and unique flora of the North-Etnean area and the many facts related to the volcano. While walking, you will marvel at the amazing atmosphere and colours of the Etna at sunset; you will hear all about the folks of Etna, about their traditions and customs. The trekking part will last 1,5/2 hours.
Equipped with helmets and torchlights that we will provide for free, you will be able to get in the volcanic underground and visit one of the striking volcanic caves of our volcano; during this part, the guide will explain the origins, characteristics and uses of this fascinating volcanic phenomenon.
Snack
After the trekking on Etna at sunset, we will offer you a tasty snack with local food and wine (either in a winery or in a chalet of the area).
At the end of the trip, at around 9.00/10.00 PM, the guide will drop you off at the starting point.
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes: a pair of long trousers, a t-shirt and a jacket; we recommend you to bring a good pair of socks and, since the temperature on Mount Etna can be lower than Taormina, to bring also an extra jacket. In case you don’t have the proper equipment, we can provide you with hiking boots and windproof jackets (provided that you will tell us the correct sizes in advance).
The journey can endure little variations due specific needs of the group and/or weather conditions. In addition, in the case of conditions or events that are independent of our will and unpredictable, the guide may choose to make some changes to the itinerary and its judgment is imperative.
