Mount Etna Advanced Trekking Tour From Taormina

Explore the paths of the North East Side of Mount Etna in a medium-advanced trekking led by one of our naturalistic guides.

 

Departure

For this Mount Etna medium-advanced trekking tour we will pick you up outside/nearby your accommodation in Taormina or in its close vicinity. Depending on the accommodation’s location, we will organize a convenient meeting point.

 

First stop: Guided medium-advanced trekking at 2000 – 2500 m. on Etna North

After approximately one hour drive we will arrive at our camp base on Etna North; here we will stop briefly to get to know better the guide and the day’s itinerary. You can also take the needed equipment for the hike (we can provide trekking boots and jackets upon request). Our expert naturalistic guide will lead you through ancient woods and extinct craters, as well as introduce you to the spectacular volcanic phenomena occurred over time. This medium-advanced trekking will be your chance to learn about the typical and unique flora of the North-Etnean area and the many facts related to the volcano. While marveling at the beauties of Mount Etna, you will also hear all about the folks of Etna, about their traditions and customs, and get to discover in depths the link between man and nature. The trekking part will last approximately 4 hours.

 

Packed lunch break

Along the way, you will have a stop to enjoy a packed lunch that we will offer you.

 

Second stop: Volcanic cave

Equipped with helmets and torchlights that we will provide for free, you will be able to get in the volcanic underground and visit one of the striking volcanic caves of our volcano; during this part the guide will explain the origins, characteristics, and uses of this fascinating volcanic phenomenon.

 

Return

At the end of the tour, the guide will drop you off at the starting point.

 

 

Important Information

Recommended equipment

We remind you to wear sneakers (sports or trekking) with socks, and wear a winter jacket since the temperature at altitude is lower than 10-15 ° C around Catania. In case of snow, we also recommend to bring with you a second pair of socks. Snowshoes and sticks will be provided by us. If you think you are not well equipped, please let us know when booking. In that case, we will give you shoes and jackets.

Also remember to bring a bottle of water with you to unwind during your trek.

Itinerary variation

The journey can endure little variations due specific needs of the group and/or weather conditions. In addition, in the case of conditions or events that are independent of our will and unpredictable, the guide may choose to make some changes to the itinerary and its judgment is imperative.

Suitable for

This activity is suitable for people in good shape, used to walking on long trails for a prolonged time. The participation is not recommended to those who are not in a good state of health, those who are not used to walking and to children under 12 years of age.
